Known as “A Pedreira” (The Quarry), Braga’s Municipal Stadium is currently used by Sporting Clube de Braga. It opened in December 30th, 2003, but it was only until the 9th of July, 2007 between the club and the insurance company AXA, that its name changed. Therefore, it became known as AXA Stadium

With a capacity of around 30,000 seats, this stadium was considered multiple times one of the most original and beautiful stadiums in the world. The Financial Times even wrote an article about British stadiums and, in that same article, it points AXA Stadium as an example for a beautiful precinct/stadium. The article goes on saying about Braga’s Stadium: “"There has been nothing in this country to match the architectural delight of Eduardo Souto de Moura’s stadium for Braga in Portugal, a breath-taking arena carved into the side of a rock face on the site of a former quarry".
